70 (110)cm, Orange Mauritius Mandrinette Hibiscus is an extremly rare orange flowering form from the slightly more common dark reddish pink Mauritius hibiscus. It is known from a single population only and it will probably be separated in the closer future from the nominal pink form as a subspecies due to several differences. This orange flowering form has a more erect habit and bears small leathery, finely pubescent, dark green leaves and ornamental, and for size of the plant rather large rich orange flowers. Easily grown in any rich, well drained substrate in full sun throughout the year and reduced watering in winter at a minimum of 20°C. Seeds from all Hibiscus species in section Lilibiscus (e.g Hibiscus arnottianus, Hibiscus cooperi, Hibiscus fragilis, Hibiscus genevii, Hibiscus mabberleyi, etc.) germinate unevenly over a period of several months. Keep pots in a warm spot and the soil slightly moist until germination will occur. We expect to offer seeds from this form in late 2024 for the very first time ever. VII-III. |
