70 (120), Rose Mallow (syn. Lavatera trimestris) is an annual species with most ornamental, quite large, bright rose, satin-like flower cups above heartshaped leaves on a tall, freely branching stem. Native of open spots in S Europe and the Mediterranean. For any rich, well drained soil in full sun. Either sow directly into the ground from autumn to early summer or precultivate in pots at some 20°C in early spring and transplant seedlings end of spring to early summer after the last freezing nights. VI-VIII.
