It is similar to the Teide Violet (Viola cheiranthiifolia) and makes narrowly lanceolate, slightly leathery, dull green leaves with a shining silvery surface and numerous large, pale lilac blue to mauve flowers with a small yellow heart. Cultivation in pure pumice (alternatively to be tried in crushed lava). Water plants always carefully from beneath and protect leaves from direct rain. Ideal under cold glass or for the unheated greenhouse, temporarily endures freezing down to -12°C in winter, keep always sunny and provide good air ventilation.
