70 (100)cm, upright to arching stems, sometimes shaded purplish to red, dark green, glossy leaves with broad lanceolate leaflets. Makes one to three rose or white flowers per stem. Very variable in flower size and color. The species from which descend most modern herbaceous hybrids. Native to Siberia, NW China and Mongolia. For full sun to partial shade and any well drained, rich soil. IV-V.
