2 (4)m, Madeira Prickly Carrion Flower differs from typical Mediterranean Smilax aspera ssp. aspera for the size and shape of its' narrow heart-shaped, glossy leaves and pendulous racemes of most ornamental bright rose-red fruits. From open spots in the laurel forest on Madeira (Portugal). For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter keep plants slightly drier at a minimum of some 5°C. VI-VII.
