Native from the pine forest to the subalpine zone growing in rich, well drained, rocky soil in full sun to partial shade. Seeds from a subalpine population of Tenerife at some 1920m which might be tried in a protected, sunny spot in the garden in areas with a milder climate in Central Europe and from the upper succulent shrub on Gran Canaria.
