100 (170)cm, Ashwagandha or Wintercherry is a perennial, evergreen woody shrub from Arabia through India, widely used in traditional Ayurveda medicine as antibiotic and narcotic. The small inconspicuous yellowish green flowers are followed by ornamental glossy, bright orange berries (poisonous) partially embedded in a green calyx. For any rich, well drained, slightly sandy to stony soil in full sun throughout the year. In winter keep cooler at a minimum of some 10°C with reduced watering. VII-X.
