30 (50)cm, Lebanese Basil is a wild ocurring basil from the eastern Mediterranean. It is very similar to Genovese Basil, yet this form is slightly smaller in all aspects. The glossy leaves have a very rich and spicy taste and are used for salads. Easily grown in any rich, well drained soil in full sun. Sow after the last freezing nights directly to the ground in the garden by the end of spring. Do not cover sowings with soil for all basil species require light for germination. Original collection made at Jadra/Jiyé, some 12 km S of Beyrouth, 180m. VII-IX.
