100 (120)cm, a very rare medium sized species from East Africa with a short maroon spathe with a pale cream outer basis and a tall dark maroon spadix on a long stalk. In winter keep dormant corms almost completely dry at a minimum of some 15°C. The form 'Dark Purple' has a dark spotted petiole and peduncle and a darker colored spathe and is a superior color form in comparison to the normal one. The intraspecific cross Amorphophallus maximus aff. 'Dark Purple' X maximus H.AM 067 has a nicely reddish dotted petiole base. VI-VII.
