Tamus communis (Black Bryony)

150 (300)cm, Black Bryony is a fully winterhardy species with annual vines from a perennial, very large fleshy rhizome. It is native to southern and south-eastern Europe (Italy form), the Canary Islands (La Palma and Tenerife form), and the Eastern Mediterranean (Lebanon form), growing in partially shaded spots in fresh soils in woods or thickets. A fast growing, ornamental vine with ornamental, intense red berries (poisenous) in late summer. Populations throughout the Mediterranean usually have round berries, whereas those from the Canary islands tend to have slightly elongated, drop-shaped fruits with a small tip and slightly more leathery leaves. It's a perfect wine to grow indoor. Bright dark green leaves and red berries have a very attractive appearence.
