Withania riebeckii (Socotra Winter Cherry)

60 (100)cm, Socotra Winter Cherry is a very rare and threatened species from the island of Socotra, offshore Yemen. Withania riebeckii has narrow, woody branches and showy silvery-gray, elongated ovate to elliptical, densely smoothly hairy leaves, axillary to terminal, small creamy yellow flowers, and small orange berries surrounded by an open calyx. For any rich, very well drained soil in full sun throughout the year. In winter keep plants cooler at a minimum of some 15°C and water carefully. Our seeds are from correctly identified, true-to-type plants, whereas what you may usually find under this name on several selling platforms is the much more common Withania somnifera, which is a variable species. True Withania riebeckii always has bright orange fruits and upon maturity the calyx with the fruit inside will fall off the plant, whereas in Withina somnifera fruits are orange red and the dried up calyces usually stay persistently on the plant. X-II.
