Hibiscus grandiflorus (Giant Swamp Mallow)

200 (300)cm, Giant Swamp Mallow is a eye-catching, yet still rarely cultivated perennial herbaceous shrub from wet areas in south-eastern USA (Florida). It makes very tall annual stalks with very large, pale rose flowers above palmately-divided, greyish-green, smoothly pubescent leaves. The annual stalks usually die down in winter and the plant re-sprouts in following spring. For any very humus rich, always slightly moist soil in full sun. During winter cover the dormant rootstock with a mulch-layer to give some additional protection from freezing through. VII-IX.
