70 (100)cm, Cretan Ebony is a fabulous, endemic small woody, densely branching, evergreen shrub from rocky sunexposed sites on the island of Crete, Greece. It bears utmost showy, terminal clusters of magenta-lilac flowers above fine silvery haired trifoliate leaves in spring and early summer. For any rich, well-drained substrate in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter keep plants drier at a minimum of some 5°C and with reduced watering. Each flower produces one capsule with a small single seed. And each flower cluster usually has few viable seeds only. Additionally, cleaning seeds is extremely time consuming as capsules are embedded in several layers of bracts. Thus seeds are extremely scarce. III-VI.
