10 (20)cm, Spring-flowering Mandrake is a perennial summer dormant herb with a thick, branched rootstock and a basal rosette of large, elongated, wrinkled, dark green leaves. The whitish green to dull blue upwards facing flowers are bell shaped and born in the center of the rosette. The round, ripe fruits are turning greenish-yellow. This batch of seeds is from a spring flowering variety which has proved much hardier than other clones and it is fully winter hardy in Central Europe. Seeds from the spring-flowering mandrake (Mandragora officinarum var. officinarum) are almost three times the size than those from the autumn-flowering subspecies (Mandragora officinarum var. autumnalis) and each golfball-sized (!) fruit contains very few seeds only. Seed is always extremely scarce. For any rich, well drained, deep soil in full sun. IV-V.
