Smilacina (False Salomon's Seal)

False Salomon's Seal, close to the real Salomon Seal (Polygonatum) and Maianthemum. Wood plants with a perennial rootstock, from which emerge annual, erect growing stalks with dense foliage and terminally arranged, small, white star-like flowers, followed by dense clusters of most ornamental bright colored berries in late summer and autumn. Easily cultivated, ground-covering plants for any moist, rich, and leafy soil in half-shade to shade.
Sow preferably in autumn in any humus rich, well drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot. Seeds Require a cooling period over several weeks prior to germination in late spring. Some seeds might take two years to germinate.
All are USDA Climate Zone 6.
