Romulea (Canary Islands' species)

Canary "Crocus" with beautiful, usually rather large flowers with two color shades. Gras like, very narrow, long leaves. Excellent for an unheated greenhouse (cold glass) or with good winter and moisture protection at rather dry spots in the open garden (rockery).
Sow flat in any well drained soil at minimum 15°; autumn to late spring. Pot cultivation for at least 2 years, transplant rather large bulbs as soon as leaves wither in late summer.
All are USDA Climate Zone 9.

20 (50)cm, endemic Romulea from the Canary Islands, large leaves, crowned by rose blue trumpet like flowers, showing dark violet stripes on petals. Native in open grass fields in the upper succulent shrub in rather inorganic soil. Easy to cultivate, provided good frost and moisture protection it may be cultivated in the open garden. Ideal under cold glass. Very decorative and rarely seen Romulea. I-IV.

Romulea spec. 001 (Mallorca)

25 (35)cm, an unidentified species from Mallorca with very thin, grass-like leaves and long, single-flowered stalks. For any rich, well drained substrate in a sunny to partially shaded spot. Keep drier and frostfree in winter at a minimum of some 5°C. I-IV.
