Xylopia (Grains of Selim Tree)

Grains of Selim Tree is a tall tree within the Custard Apple family (Annonaceae) and native to Central Africa. It makes evergreen, leathery leaves and nice whitish flowers with rosy-red outer petals followed by bean-like fruits with brownish-black, highly aromatic seeds inside. The seeds have a slightly bitter and resinous taste and are used ground as a spice and traditional medicine in Africa. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter keep plants drier at a minimum of some 15°C with reduced watering.
Sow flat in any good, humus rich soil at a minimum of some 20°C throughout the year and place pots in full sun. Keep soil always slightly moist.
