Retama

Retama is a monotypic genus with only this species from coastal areas of North Africa extending to the Canary Islands occuring in dry shrub formations. Easily grown in conatainers in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter keep drier at a minimum of some 5°C.
Prior to sowing scarify seed (e.g. carefully scratch the seed coat with fine sandpaper) and soak them in luke warm water for some 48h. Sow at a minimum of some 15°C in any sandy to rocky soil. Keep dry and cool in winter in a sunny spot.
All are USDA Climate Zone 10.
