Radyera (Desert Rose Mallow)

Desert Rose Mallow is a small genus with only two known species at present from arid areas: Radyera urens (South Africa) and Radyera farragei (southern mainland Australia). Both are soft-wooded semiperennials to perennials with cordate, usually lobed leaves, which are densely covered with silvery-white to golden hairs. Radyera farragei has quite large, bright pink to deep lilac hibiscus-like flowers with a darker center. It can be successfully grown as a pot or container plant in any fertile, humus-rich, slightly rocky, very well drained soil in full sun throughout the year. If grown as perennials keep potted plants at a minimum of some 15°C and reduced watering during winter. Alternatively plants can be cultivated as annuals as they are fast growing.
Sow seeds in any rich, slightly sandy, well drained substrate at some 20°C. After germination keep pots slightly drier and in full sun.
