Baptisia or Wild Indigo are herbaceous perennials or woody shrubs with in some species long racemes of bright colored pea-flowers above feathered leaves. Native of woods in N America growing in rich soils. Easily cultivated in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny to spot.
Sow flat in any good, well drained soil, keep pots in a sheltered spot outside during winter. Transplant young root stock after leaves have withered in autumn.
All are USDA Climate Zone 6.
