Norfolk Island Hibiscus is an evergreen, medium-sized woody shrub to small tree with age from the Mallow family (Myrtaceae). It is a monotypic genus with a single species (Lagunaria patersonii) native of the Norfolk Island and Lord How Island. It makes beautiful, waxy, bright rosy-pink to mauve, hibiscus-like flowers above very ornamental, oval, densely pubescent, olive-green, leathery leaves. It can be successfully grown as a pot or container plant in any fertile, humus-rich, slightly rocky, very well drained sol in full sun throughout the year. In winter keep plants at a minimum of some 12°C and reduced watering. Excellent plant for a cool wintergarden or temperate greenhouse.
Sow seeds in any rich, slightly sandy, well drained substrate at some 20°C. After germination keep pots slightly drier and in full sun.
All plants are of USDA Climate Zone 10.
