Cassabanana, Casbanan, Sikana or Musk Cucumber with the single species Sicana odorifa is a fast growing perennial vine from tropical South America, where it has been cultivated for hundreds of years for it's edible pale yellow to orange flesh, which has a very pleasant melon-like taste in ripe fruits. The elongated large fruits can be stored for a very long time, the flesh of unripe fruits is cooked or baked and served as a side-dish. It is easily grown as an annual in any rich, well drained soil in full sun with sufficient warmth during it's growing period and an early pre-culture under glass.
Sow flat preferably from end of March to mid April in any rich, well drained soil, three seeds per pot. Keep pots in a sunny and constantly warm spot inside, e.g. on a window sill, in a heated greenhouse or in the wintergarden. Transplant seedlings to the open garden as soon as temperatures will stay above 10°C at night in late spring to early summer.
