Saracha or Jaltomatoes are members of the Nightshade family (Solanaceae) and grow as annuals, making hundreds of delicious, pea to cherry sized fruits from mid summer until autumn. These can be eaten either raw or cooked in relishes, and are widely used in the Mexican cuisine. They are native of C Latin America growing in open spots in moist, evergreen woods and alongside rivers. Easily cultivated in any humus rich, slightly moist soil in preferably partial shade.
Sow flat in any rich soil under glass in spring, transplant to the garden after the last freezing in late spring.
