Matricaria (Real Chamomile)

Real Chamomile is an annual to biannual species from southern and eastern Europe through temperate regions in Asia. It makes numerous branches with pinnatisected narrow leaves and terminal white flowers heads with an elongated central yellow disk. Young flowers are widely used either fresh or dried in herbal teas and for their sweet aromatic taste and antiseptic and healing properties. One teaspoon of flower buds is sufficient to prepare 1l of tea. Enjoy either pure or sweetened with sugar. Easily cultivated in any humus rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot.
Sow flat on any well drained soil in full sun in early to mid spring. Cover seeds slightly with soil only and place pots in a protected spot outside. Transplant to the final spot in the garden as soon as seedlings are strong enough.
All are USDA Climate Zone 8/9.
