Wulfenia (Cow's Footprint)

Cow's Footprint are rarely seen alpine plants growing in rock crevices filled with moist humus soil. They make quite large, rather flat rosettes of long leaves and elegant nodding flower stalks with lilac-blue flowers.
Sow dust like seeds in spring on pure humus or peat soil, with some sand added for an enhanced drainage. Do not cover seeds and keep soil always moist from beneath, shelter from heavy rains. Not easy from seeds, for the connoisseur.
All are USDA Climate Zone 6.

Wulfenia carinthiaca (Carinthian Cow's Footprint)

20 cm ø, Carinthian Cow's Footprint makes flowering stalks up to 30cm in height with hundreds of small, intense lilac blue flowers which make a showy effect above a basal rosette of undulated, dark green leaves. Requires a slightly acidic soil (on a peaty basis) and a sunny to partially shaded spot. IV-V.
