Primroses cover some of the most outstanding perennials, and most reach flowering size within 1 year after sowing. Some are growing in rocky places in higher mountainous areas, such as the Alps or the Himalaya range, some derive from dry to moist woods and others are bog plants. For cultivation requirements of certain species please refer to the list below.
Sow seed on top of any rich, moist soil in partial shade, preferably from autumn to spring. Do not cover seeds and transplant seedlings in early summer or autumn, depending on growth. From most species viable seeds are very hard to obtain!
