Butcher's Brooms are evergreen small woody shrubs from Europe to Asia, growing in dryish to semi moist spots in partial to full shade in woods. They have showy evergreen, sometimes spiny "foliage" (i.e. leaf-like flattened small branches) and large, bright red, most ornamental berries in autumn and winter. A small genus with few species, which all have become very rare in nature as plants have been excessively collected for Christmas decoration purposes.
Note: All parts are poisonous if ingested !.
Sow the large seeds in any well drained, preferably humus-rich soil from autumn to early spring. Keep pots outside in a rain-sheltered spot during winter. Will germinate in late spring.
All are USDA Climate Zone 6.
5 seeds per package.
