Blue Throatwort belongs to a small genus within the bellflower family (Campanulaceae) and is native of humus rich, fresh spots in the Central and Western Mediterranean as well as Canary islands. It is a perennial species with utmost showy, broad, intense violet-blue flowers heeads above elongated elliptical, dark green leaves. For any humus rich, slightly moist substrat in a sunny (winter) to partially shaded (summer) spot. Most Trachelium species are not reliably winter hardy in Central Europe and are best grown as pot plants under frotsfree condtions with reduced watering in winter at a minimum of some 5°C.
Sow the fine, dust like seeds from spring to early summer on any well drained, humus soil in a partially shaded and protected spot. Do not cover seeds and keep pots always slightly moist from beneath.
