Ixanthus or Mountain Queen Gentian) is a monotypic genus within the Gentian family (Gentianaceae), native of semi-moist spots in rich soil in the laurel forest of the western Canary Islands. Makes perennial rhizomes, from which emerge the tall, annual flower stalks with numerous yellow star-like flowers in a terminal, lax cluster. For any rich, well drained soil in a partially shaded spot under frostfree conditions throughout the year. Keep slightly drier in winter at a minimum of some 10°C in a sunny spot.
Sow dust like seeds thin on any rich, well drained soil in partial shade, keep soil always slightly moist from below. Carefully transplant small seedlings as soon as they are strong enough to larger pots.

150 (220)cm, Mountain Queen Gentian is a Canary relative of the Gentians with a tall annual flower stem produced from a perennial rhizome, bright yellow star-like flowers in a terminal cluster above glossy, bright green leaves. For any rich, slightly moist substrate in a partially shaded sppot. In winter keep sunnier and at a temperature minimum of some 5°C. VI-VIII.
