Madeira Blueberry grows as an evergreen, tall shrub to small tree, and as its minor continental, shrubby cousins it produces delicious, dark-blue fruits. An ornamental container plant due to its glossy, bright green foliage, ideal in the cold wintergarden. For any humus-rich, slightly moist soil in partial shade. Keep drier and sunnier in winter at a minimum of some 5°C.
Sow small seeds flat in any humus rich, well drained, slightly moist soil at some 15°C to 25°C in a sunny spot. Do not expose pots to higher temperatures, as these will impede germination! Germination will take some 6 to 12 weeks. After germination keep seedlings in partial shade.
