Stewartia are rarely known shrubs with dark-green, glossy, leathery, deciduous foliage. Being close to the genus Camellia, Stewartia have camellia-like, large, and faintly sweet-scented flowers. Easy for a moist and leafy soil on a peat basis in a partially shaded to sunny position, fully hardy.
Sow flat in any humus rich, well drained soil in autumn to late spring. Keep pots in a sunny and protected spot outside during winter. Carefully transplant young plants in autumn.
