Myrtle is a most ornamental woody Mediterranean shrub with leathery, dark green, glossy, oval, aromatic fragrant leaves and terminal clusters with white to rose flowers followed by decorative, edible, blue berries in autumn and winter. It is easily grown as a container plant in any rich, well drained substrate in a sunny spot. During winter keep plants cool, yet frostfree in full sun with reduced watering. In warmer regions (Mediterranean and Atlantic area) plants can be grown in a sheltered place outside in the garden.
Sow small seeds flat in any rich, well drained substrate in a sunny spot at some 20°C to 30°C. Keep soil always slightly moist, yet not wet. As soon as seedlings appear place pots in a sunny spot.
