Iris

Iris are easy to cultivate if soil is adapted to the subgenus a species belongs to. The bulbous species (e.g. Iris bucharica or Iris xiphium) require a sandy soil which is well drained and a place in full sun. All dwarf forms (less than 30cm in height, e.g. Iris foetidissima and Iris variegata), are suited for any limestone based soil with some compost mixed in it and a sunny place (rock garden). The tall growing Iris (e.g. Iris pseudacorus and Iris sanguinea) are in general from moist and partially shaded habitats, thus require a soil on peat (compost) basis.
Sow autumn to spring in any well drained, humus rich, and slightly sandy soil. Keep soil always moist and pots in a sunny and protected place. Pot cultivation for 1 to 2 years. Transplant in early autumn or late spring. Most Iris will already flower within 2 to 3 years!
All are USDA Climate Zone 6 unless otherwise specified.
20 seeds per package if not stated differently.
