Zantedeschia (African Calla)

African Calla belong to a small South African genus and are native of winter wet and summer dry areas. All Zantedeschia species have elegant spathes in white, yellow to rose and a very attractive foliage. They will mostly go dormant in fall and rest for the winter as dormant tubers or rhizomes. Either store tubers in a frost free place or cover plants sufficiently with mulch etc. to protect them from moisture and freezing through in winter. Sow at a minimum of some 20°C in any rich soil in a sunny spot throughout the year. Keep seedlings partially shaded in summer and in full sun in winter as long as they are green and growing.
All are USDA Climate Zone 8/9 unless otherwise specified.
