Isoplexis (Canary Shrub Foxglove)

Canary Shrub Foxgloves are growing as perennial woody shrubs. They have large flower-stalks from bright to deep bronze and orange. All require a peaty and moist substrate in a partially shaded spot. Will flower in autumn and grow from October to May.
Use any humus rich, sandy soil, which shall be rather free of chalky soil for sowing. Do not cover seeds with soil. Keep in a partially shaded spot at some 15°C to max. 25°C. The optimal temperatures are 20°C at day and 15°C at night. Permantly high temperatures will inhibt germination! Always water from beneath. Keep at a minimum of some 10°C in winter and reduce watering to a minimum, unless grown under heated glass.
Todas las plantas son de la Zona Climática USDA 11.

Isoplexis canariensis (Tenerife Shrub Foxglove)

Isoplexis canariensis (Tenerife Shrub Foxglove)

150 (250)cm, Tenerife Shrub Foxglove is the tallest of the perennial woody Canary Foxglove species. It is native of Tenerife, where it is found in only few populations in open spots of the evergreen laurel forest. Makes nice, deep green, shiny, serrated leaves and plenty of large, brownish-orange, trumpet-like flowers in tall and dense racemes. Easily grown in any rich, well drained soil in partial shade (summer) to full sun (winter) at a winter minimum of some 12°C. Recently UK based Thompson & Morgan introduced a new hybrid which was thought to be impossible before: Digitalis 'Illumination Pink' combining Digitalis purpurea with Isoplexis canariensis. V-VIII.

Isoplexis sceptrum (Giant Madeira Foxglove)

Isoplexis sceptrum (Giant Madeira Foxglove)

150 (400)cm, Giant Madeira Foxglove is similar to the Canary Isoplexis species, but much more robust and has much broader, darker green leaves and large, dark orange flowers in dense spikes. In time it may become a tall woody shrub. The species is native of open, sunny spots in the laurel forest on the island of Madeira, where it has become quite rare and can be encountered only in few, rather inaccesible sites. A very uncommon, beautiful plant, easy in any leafy, slightly moist soil in partial shade. It is resistant to slight freezing down to -3°C in early autumn, keep in full sun and cool (yet frostfree) in winter with reduced watering. Isoplexis sceptrum seeds from other seed dealers turned out to be a major and orange-yellowed flowered form of Isoplexis canariensis, we offer seeds from the real Isoplexis sceptrum now! VII-X.
