Guaves make nice large shrubs or small trees with shiny deep-green foliage, strongly fragrant, white or creamy flowers and delicious fruits. Easy to grow in any well drained soil in a sunny spot at a minimum of some 20°C. Keep cool (at some 10°C) in winter and reduce watering to a minimum. All will set fruits as large container plants.
Sow flat in any rich, well drained soil at 20 to 25°C in a sunny spot. Keep soil always moist during summer and fertilize regularly. Keep plants drier and cooler in winter at a minimum of some 7°C.

3 (10)m, Costa Rican Guave, Cas Guave or Guajaba Agria makes an ornamental low tree with glossy, evergreen, ovoid to elliptical leaves on dark reddish brown branches. Its' fragrant white flowers are followed by large, round, yellow peeled fruits with an aromatic, yet acidic, white pulp with few seeds only. Excellent for juices and jellies. Native of humus rich, slightly moist soils in Colombia (Cauca and Magdalena Valleys), to central America and S Mexico, and Costa Rica.
