Ficus (Fig Tree)

Fig Tree belong to a broad genus of subtropical to tropical evergreen or deciduous woody shrubs and trees. Many species are cultivated for their showy foliage, a couple of species make edible fruits. Easily grown in any rich, well drained substrate in containers in cooler climates with reduced watering in winter and a minimum of some 5°C. In milder regions plants offered on this page can be grown outside in the garden with some protective mulch layer in winter.
Sow dustlike seeds on top of any humus rich, slightly sandy, well drained, always slightly moist soil. Do not cover seeds with soil and keep pots in a partially shaded to sunny spot at some 20°C throughout the year. Until seedlings are strong enough keep plants frostfree in winter.
All are USDA Climate Zone 8.
