Senecio (Canary Succulent Groundsel)

Senecio is a very diverse genus with annual to perennial, herbaceous to evergreen species, some with succulent leaves and stems. Senecio kleinia (syn. Kleinia neriifolia) is a Canary endemic and native of succulent shrub formations in open spots in rocky soils on all islands. It has erect, succulent stems topped by annual linear to narrow leaves which emerge in autumn after flowering. It can be easily grown in any rich, well drained substrate in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter keep plants at a minimum of some 10°C and water carefully.
Sow seeds flat in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot at some 20°C. Higher temperatures may impede germination. Keep soil only slightly moist and turn seedlings to full sun, especially in winter months, which is their main growing season.
