Abroma (Devil's Cotton)

Devil's Cotton is a monotypic genus within the mallow family (Malvaceae, formerly it was included in Sterculiaceae) with a single species, which is widely spread in Asia. It is a tall and fast growing woody shrub to small tree with showy pendulous, dark wine red flowers. From the stem high quality fibers are produced. The entire plant and the seed pod are covered with short bristly and irritating hairs, thus it has to be handled with care. Easily grown in any rich, well drained substrate in full sun throughout the year and a winter minimum of 20°C.
Sow flat at a minimum of some 20°C in any rich, well drained soil. Keep pots in full sun.

2 (4)m, Devil's Cotton is the only species in this genus and widely spread in Asia. It is a tall and fast growing woody shrub to small tree with showy pendulous, dark wine red flowers. Plants can be cut back well in spring if they get too tall. For any rich, well drained substrate in a sunny spot throughout the year and a winter minimum of 20°C.
