PLANTS for sale

In the course of this winter we will move our business from Germany to the Canary islands (Spain). We would like to take all of our cultivated plants with us, yet this is simply not feasible. Thus we will offer mostly mature, flowering sized plants on this page during autumn from end of September through end of November. The range of plants will cover flowering sized dormant bulbous plants and other geophytes, herbaceous peonies (such as flowering sized Paeonia mlokosewitschii), and many showy and unusual perennials for your garden (e.g. several Hosta spp.). For transport reasons most leaves will be cut off and all plants will be shipped bareroot, free from most soil and wrapped in moist paper. Please unpack and plant them on receipt.

Please note, that plants can usually be shipped within Europe only (with exception for Switzerland and Norway). If you are living outside Europe and would like to order some plants, please make sure that the import of plants is allowed to your country without any phytosanitary certificate or other import permit issued by the shipper. Keep in mind that simply for cost reasons we DO NOT issue any phytosanitary health certificate nor any CITES certificates for possibly protected plants. It is the buyer's responsability to check for any possible import restrictions in his country.

Aeonium goochiae

Aeonium goochiae

20cm, a rather unusual Aeonium, not looking at all like a typical Aeonium with its yellowish green, flat, sticky, broad leaves on narrow, woody branches. Makes only slightly succulent, but highly pubescent leaves with an utmost pleasant, heavy balsamiferous fragrance if grown in a very sunny location. Pale rose flowers in terminal umbels. It is native of shaded to sunny rocky cliffs in the North of La Palma. For any humus rich, slightly moist soil in a sunny (winter) to partially shaded (summer) spot. Keep plants drier in winter at a minimum of some 10°C. VIII-X.

Amorphophallus atroviridis

Amorphophallus atroviridis

30 (50)cm, a most beautiful, midsized species with smooth, dark green, broad leaflets, sometimes shaded purple, and showy rose margins, and a stunning, cream white spathe with a fox brown to pale rose and very long spadix. A variable species concerning leaf stalk patterns, we offer only superior selections with very dark green leaves and showy dark purplish leaf stalks. Native of rich, well drained soils in woods in North Central Thailand (Sara Buri). This species makes elongated, vertical rhizomatous corms, the size is given as length. In winter keep dormant corms almost completely dry at a minimum of some 15°C. Our tubers are from excellently grown plants cultivated in Europe and not cheap imported tubers from Asia, which may have been wrongly stored and/or may be infected with fungal diseases! VI-VII.

Amorphophallus konjac (Konjac Titan Arum)

Amorphophallus konjac (Konjac Titan Arum)

150 (200)cm, Konjac Titan Arum is probably the easiest and one of the showiest species in this genus. It has an impressive dark purple red spathe of up to 80cm in height with a purplish-maroon spadix inside. This species is vey variable with regards to flower height and color. On a famous selling platform someone offers seeds at a ridiculously high price from a so-called "form" which should be "as spectacular as Amorphophallus titanum". This is simply nonsense, it is just the normal type with an abnormally formed flower in one year due to cultivation circumstances. Seedlings will be just the normal form. Amorphophallus konjac is probably the most readily available species throughout the world, so don't spend too much on such a "form", unless it is not a true cultivar with clearly distinct and - above all - permanent characteristics such as Amorphophallus konjac 'Pinto'! Amorphophallus konjac is easily grown in a sunny or partially shaded spot in any rich, well drained soil. During summer this robust species may be even grown in the open ground in the garden just like potatoes. And in Asia this species is indeed grown as a field crop for making several dishes (e.g. Konyaku Noodles). During dormancy in winter keep tubers dry at a minimum of some 15°C. Tubers sized 8cm ø and above are flowering size. USDA climate zone 9/10. IV-VI.

Sauromatum venosum (Voodoo Lily)

Sauromatum venosum (Voodoo Lily)

50 (70)cm, Voodoo Lily belongs despite it's common name to the aroid family (Araceae) and not the lily family (Liliaceae). It is native from East Africa to India. It has a large and broad umbrella-like, single (rarely two or more) leaf on a brownish-red speckled stalk, which appears after flowering. It makes an unusual "flower": a narrow, purple spathe yellow inside with reddish brown spots and a tall wine red spadix. For any humus rich, very well drained soil in a partially shaded to sunny spot. During dormancy in winter keep bulbs completely dry at a minimum of some 5°C. May be grown in the garden throughout the year in climatic warmer regions in central Europe (e.g. Rhine valley and Atlantic coast) with some good winter protection (e.g. a thick dry mulch layer). 4cm ø coms will need another growing season to reach possible flowering size. This species is sometimes offered under the false name "Arum cornutum" from some Dutch wholesale bulb companies and later resold under the same completely wrong name from several retail companies. Those companies are obviously very resistant to accurate taxonomy! IV-V.
