Zantedeschia (African Calla)

African Calla belong to a small South African genus and are native of winter wet and summer dry areas. All Zantedeschia species have elegant spathes in white, yellow to rose and a very attractive foliage. They will mostly go dormant in fall and rest for the winter as dormant tubers or rhizomes. Either store tubers in a frost free place or cover plants sufficiently with mulch etc. to protect them from moisture and freezing through in winter. Sow at a minimum of some 20°C in any rich soil in a sunny spot throughout the year. Keep seedlings partially shaded in summer and in full sun in winter as long as they are green and growing.
All are USDA Climate Zone 8/9 unless otherwise specified.
10 seeds per package or per 1 dormant corm (length in cm).

Note: All corms are available for a delivery within Europe only ! Seeds are shipped worldwide. For Non-European customers only: We do ship dormant tubers outside Europe, provided that all risk is upon the buyer. We do not issue any phytosanitary certificate, which is officially required for most countries. We kindly ask you to check with your local import regulations before placing an order!

Zantedeschia aethiopica (White Calla)

Zantedeschia aethiopica (White Calla)

100 (150)cm, White Calla is the tallest species in its genus Zantedeschia and makes a pure white spathe and a yellow spadix on up to 150cm tall stems. This species requires plenty of moisture in summer. During winter keep plants in full sun with reduced watering. In very mild areas of central Europe (lower and central Rhine valley, costal areas, etc.) the bulbous rootstock may survive winter outside if planted rather deep in a well draining soil and some winter protection (e.g. a dry mulch layer). USDA Climate Zone 10. VI-IX.
