Sedum (Subtropical Madeira and Cyprus Stonecrop)

The broad genus Sedum is represented by some 5 endemic taxa on Madeira and neighboring islands of Porto Santo and the Desertas, and some 3 endemic taxa on the island of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean. The Madeira species are perennial, woody sub shrubs growing in exposed rocky soils or on vertical cliffs and have decorative, succulent foliage and quite large flowers in white to cream or yellow. Species from Cyprus are usally biannual and make a showy, large, basal leaf rosette and a perfect cylindrical inflorescence in Sedum cyprium, Sedum lampusae and Sedum microstachyum, which occur in rocky spots in the Troodos range in western Cyprus, respectively in the Kyrenia range in eastern Cyprus, occupied by Turkish troops. For any well drained, rocky soil in a sunny spot. Keep very sunny, drier and frostfree in winter at a minimum of some 5°C.
Sow dust-like seeds very thin on any well drained, rocky to sandy soil. Do not cover seeds.
