It makes ornamental hanging bright yellow flower spikes and is most impressing when flowering. The dried, dark brown to almost black, up to 70cm long, narrow seedpods contain numerous compartments with a blackish pulp, which is used to make juices and as a cooking ingredient just like Tamarind pulp (Tamarindus indica).
