It is considered a pre-carnivorous plant which passively catches small insects with sticky glue on stems and leaves. Seeds of this species are slow in germination and may take several months. It makes leathery, dark green leaves which are silvery-brown beneath, with entire or holly like, serrated margins. For any rich, well drained soil in a protected spot outside in the garden or in very cold regions as a container plant under frost free conditions throughout the year with reduced watering in winter and a minimum of some 5°C. The form from Mallorca (Spain) has larger seeds than the form from Sardinia (Italy). Both have more or less entire or only slightly serrated leaf margins. IV-VI.
