Junipers belong to a small cypress like genus from regions with summer drought regions with a focus of distribution in the Mediterranean; only two species are endemic to the Canary Islands. They usually make broad woody shrubs to small trees with aromatic needle like leaves and long lasting, decorative, fleshy fruits in orange to dark red and bluish-black shades. For any rocky soil, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Excellent container plants or Bonsai for the unheated greenhouse or cool wintergarden. During winter keep plants drier at a minimum of some 5°C.
Sow flat at 10-25°C in any well drained soil, keep only slightly moist and always sunny. Germination is naturally irregular and will occur over a longer period.
All are USDA Climate Zone 9 unless otherwise specified.
